Robin Hutcheson is the new director of Public Works. She’s scheduled to start at the City Aug. 29. As director, Hutcheson will oversee approximately 1,000 employees working in Business Administration, Fleet Services, the Public Works Safety Team, Solid Waste and Recycling Services, Surface Water and Sewers, Traffic and Parking Services, Transportation Maintenance and Repair, Transportation Engineering and Design, Transportation Planning and Programming, and Water Treatment and Distribution Services. She’ll manage the department’s approximately $335 million budget. Since 2012, Hutcheson has served as the director of Salt Lake City’s Transportation Division, managing the planning, design and operation of the City’s transportation system. During her tenure, Salt Lake City constructed its first streetcar line, vastly expanded its complete streets program and improved safety. In her role, Hutcheson advocated for great public infrastructure and collaborated to bring Salt Lake City’s resources together. Before working for Salt Lake City, Hutcheson spent 16 years as a transportation consultant in the private sector, working on projects throughout the Intermountain West and also in Europe. Her consulting career included foundational work in traffic analysis and transportation design, later focusing on sustainable transportation solutions for cities of all sizes.
